Packawallop welcomes “The Pack” 2009-2010

In a continuing effort to better serve or community of artists, last year Packawallop formed a new ensemble group called “The Pack”.

We gathered together a select group of talented theater and film artists who met once a month to share work, explore new ideas and share their experiences with fellow Pack members.

This proved very a successful and valuable resource to all its members and because of this we gathered together another group to form “The Pack” for the 2009-2010.

Packawallop is proud to welcome the following to “The Pack” 2009-2010. Our first meeting will be Monday, August 14th.

Michele Aldin, Isaac Butler, Tom Caruso, Drew Cortese, Anton Dudley, Neil Hellegers, Birgit Huppuch, Matthew Nichols, Wendy Seyb, Christina Shipp, Daniel Talbot, Travis York, Jeff Beihl, Britney Burgess, Scott Ebersold, Kyle Fox, Christina Gorman, Zabryna Guevara, Drew Hirshfield, Joanna Howard, Simon Kendall, Polly Lee, Sevrin Mason, Alejandro Morales, Ashley Morris, Susan Louise O’Connor, Gayton Scott, Julian Stetkevych, Pia Wilson, Josh Sohn, Crystal Skillman, Joan Rosenfels, Michael Tisdale, Adam Szymkowicz, Michael Frederic, Kari Bentley-Quinn.

Packawallop seeking positions for upcoming workshop

Packawallop Productions is seeking 2 positions for its upcoming mulit-media workshop production of “marea”. The tech and public presentations will run over one week – November 30-December 6. Pre-production will begin in September.

1. A Technical Director: The TD will be responsible for the smooth application of all technical elements of the production, organizing and implementing the set build, load-in, and strike as well as being the point person for communication between the venue and all technical aspects of the production. As this is off-off-broadway, the budget is modest but there is a fee. It is a great resume and networking opportunity for an up-and-coming TD.

2. Production Stage Manager

3. Stage Manager

Please send a cover letter and resume to info@packawallop.org, and indicate which position you are interested in.

Please pass this along to anyone you think might be interested.

The Lounge Series – Adam Szymkowicz’s Elsewhere

Packawallop Productions is proud to kick off The Lounge Series.

Lounge Logo

The Lounge Series is a program of new works of film and theater presented throughout the year in the style you’ve come to expect from Packawallop – stylish, sassy … and, naturally, with some cocktails.

Please join us at our first Lounge on Monday April 20th where we will present Adam Szymkowicz’s new play “Elsewhere” which was specially written for Packawallop Community Artists Susan Louise O’Connor, Polly Lee and Travis York. It will be directed by Scott Ebersold.

“When Teddy comes to Celia’s house to deliver a package, he doesn’t expect to be invited for dinner. When he comes to dinner, he doesn’t expect to be invited to live there. When he starts to live there, he doesn’t expect to be drugged or buried. And he certainly doesn’t expect Amanda, nor she him. A play about the unexpected, unearthed and elsewhere.”

Reservations are essential, please email info@packawallop.org to secure a seat.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Cheers!

the hypothetical theatre company: there or here

Amy Feinberg and the folks at The Hypothetical Theatre Company have been good friends with Packawallop for years.  We’d love to let you all know about their new play There or Here, which you should check out!

Hypothetical Theatre Company will present the World Premiere of Jennifer Maisel’s THERE OR HERE. Workshopped at PlayPenn in Philadelphia, the play finalist for the 2007 Sundance Theatre Lab and the 2008 O’Neil Theatre Conference. Directed by Amy Feinberg, previews begin September 6th at the 14th Street Theater. Opening night is slated for Tuesday, September 9th.

Ripped straight from the headlines (including The Oprah Winfrey Show), THERE OR HERE is a dark comedy about a mixed race couple who outsource their baby-making surrogacy to a woman in India. Nothing is off limits on this non-stop ride through the endless possibilities of outsourcing including customer service, phone sex, and even drive thru dining.

The cast features Shalin Agarwal, Purva Bedi, Annie Meisels, Judy Rosenblatt, Deepti Gupta and Alok Tewari, with sets by Mark Symczak, lighting by Tim Kaufman, sound by Tim Cramer and costumes by Jessica Reed.

Jennifer Maisel is an award winning playwright, television and film writer. She is the recipient of the 2006 Women Working With Women Collaboration Award from the New York Coalition of Professional Women in the Arts and Media for the play birds. In 2002, The Fund for New American Plays honored Jennifer with the Charlotte Woolard Award for most promising new voice in American Theatre. Her short plays How I Learned to Spell and Goody F***ing Two Shoes were both finalists for the Actors Theatre of Louisville’s Heideman  Award. Her play Mad Love garnered the Roger L. Stevens Award from the Kennedy Center’s Fund for New American Plays and was a finalist for the California Playwrights Competition, the Jane Chambers Playwriting Award and the PEN West Literary Award. Other plays by Maisel include Mallbaby, Eden, … And The Two Romeos, Dark Hours, and The Last Seder, which is currently running in Los Angeles and will have productions later this year in Minneapolis and St. Louis. Her TV writing credits include the WB series Related and the TV movie Satan’s School For Girls (starring Shannen Doherty and Kate Jackson).

The Hypothetical Theatre Company is a not-for-profit professional producing company in residence at the 14th Street Y. Past productions include Michael Weller’s Ghost on Fire, Buying Time and The Heart of ArtQuake by Melanie Marnich; Detail of a Larger Work by Lisa Dillman (ranked in the top five shows of 1998 by TheatreScope Magazine);  Michael McKeever’s The Garden of Hannah List (winner of the 1998 Carbonell Award);  Don Nigro’s My Sweetheart’s the Man in the Moon; and Jeffrey Sweet’s The Action Against Sol Schumann. For more information visit www.HypotheticalTheatre.org.

There or Here runs September 6 -28, Thurs. at 7pm, Fri. & Sat. at 8pm and Sun. at 2 pm with an additional performance Mon. 9/8 and Tues. 9/9 @ 7pm. The 14th Street Theater is located at 344 East 14th Street (between 1st & 2nd Aves. — accessible from the L train at 14th Street). Tickets are $18, available at 212-352-3101 or www.TheaterMania.com
